Te Reo, Term 4 2016.

This term we have been learning all about the Marae. We have learned that…….

  • The Marae is an important focal point for the community.
  • The Marea is a place where tradition and customs can be carried out.
  • The Marae is a place where people can express their values with dignity.
  • There are many kawa ( protocols) that prevail on the marae.
  • Marae kawa (protocols) can differ between maraes and iwi

We have focussed on some key concepts when doing this learning.
These are listed and explained in the table below.
Concept
Definition -
give the meaning of these concepts in your own words.
Tikanga
The process that you go though  Eg Karakia.

Welcoming people.
Tangata whenua
The local people who connected to a marae

I can describe the characteristics of music in songs from the past and present and from different genres.

Over the past 9 weeks I have been learning to describe the characteristics of music from songs of various times and genres.

I can name and define these characteristics of music… (list them below and explain what they are)

1. form: The term form is the overall structure or plan of a piece of music, and it describes the layout of a composition as divided into sections.

2. melody: a sequence of single notes that is musically satisfying; a tune.

3. harmony: the combination of simultaneously sounded musical notes to produce a pleasing effect

4. timbre: the character or quality of a musical sound or voice as distinct from its pitch and intensity.

5. rhythm: regular repeated pattern of movement or sound in a song.

What did you find most interesting during this topic.
I found.......interesting because........

Which characteristic do you find yourself picking up on when listening to your own music now?
When I listen to my own music I often hear lots of rhythm

Merit must do #1

On Tuesday I went to technology I am in design and Sophie and I made phone cases with the 3D printer. They both didn't work out as well as we thought they would so we moved on to complete our other projects. I made a phone holder instead with a charger hole. I used the learner quality of active thinker by answering lots of questions and winning the kahoot by listening to the things the teachers say.

I can take action to improve the water cycle in Canterbury

In this project I was working with anneke, Savannah and the two Charlotte's and we decided to create a 30 second ad.

Here is a link what we made.

In this project we decided that our success criteria were:
A good TV ad needs...
Why is this important?
It need’s to have Humor
So people don’t get bored and change the channel
Cachty
It need’s to be catchy so people like the product (e.g It’s a pillow it’s a pet it’s a pillow pet!!!!!)
Metaphor and similes to get your point across
To make the idea to sound more bigger
Audio and video must match up
So that people don't think there is something wrong with the interweb
A bold main statement
So that people instantly know what you are trying to get across

Overall our project met/do not meet this criteria because...

Parliament

Parliament

This term we have been learning about Parliament. We have looked at the difference between government and parliament, NZ parliament, who is in government, how our government works and we compared democracy to dictatorship.

Three things that I learned are NZ parliament are:

  • The prime minister John Key sits in the fourth seat to the right .
  • When you are addressing the speaker in the chamber you have to call him Mr speaker.
  • There are 121 seats in the chamber at parliament including the speakers chair.

Koru Games

The activity I did was Netball
My highlights of the Koru Games are when our team tried our best and ended up coming 6th out of 32 teams. My other highlight is the delicious food there, there was hot chips and cold drinks.
I am proud of actually making it to the Koru Games and playing against those amazing teams.
I want to do the same sport and hopefully make it further than 6th next year, Because the environment at the netball courts were great and all the teams there were very kind when they lost and when they won.

CARE values

CARE: My progress so far

The CARE award that I am working towards is: Silver

The one area of CARE that I am doing best in is: Respect because: most of my highlighted areas are in Respect.

The one area of CARE that I need to work harder in is: Excellence because: least of my highlighted areas are in Excellence.

To show my leadership qualities I am a role model to others in the CARE values by doing/showing these leadership traits: integrity, trustworthy, resilient, goal focused, active thinker and motivational.

On the CARE SOLO matrix below I am at this SOLO level: Extended Abstract because: I fell that I can display the care values well.

W.A.L.T: I can make links across texts by recognising connectives or adverbial clauses

For reading I have been learning about adverbial clauses. I have found this learning a little bit hard but mostly easy because I fell that the activity's were easy because I fell that I knew a lot about the topic

In this activity (link to adverbial clause activity), I had to...do this activity

Merit can do #9

On Thursdays I had PALs and Anneke and I ran hoops and stilts with the kakano kids. all the kids were sharing the stills so the activity went well. While I was running this I showed the learner qualities of integrity. I showed integrity by being fair and letting them all have a go since there were lots of them and there wasn't enough hoops or stilts for all of them.

My information report

The water cycle

The water cycle is a process when water goes through the land, sea and the atmosphere. The water is recycled throughout the process so that means we have no new water, there are four steps in the water cycle eg: evaporation, condensation, precipitation and groundwater/runoff. Water through the process changes state nearly every step of the way from liquid to a gas {Water Vapor} to a solid and back again.

One important step in the water cycle is Evaporation. Evaporation is an invisible process where the sun heats up the water, in oceans, lakes and rivers and the water then turns into a gas which we know as vapour. Vapor in the air is called humidity. In some hot places, there is a high amount of humidity. The process of evaporation is faster on hot days because the sun heats up the water quicker therefore, it turns into vapour at a greater rate. After the water turns into a gas and it floats up to the atmosphere, it forms into clouds which is called Condensation.

Condensation is the clouds in the sky, when the clouds get too heavy precipitation takes over and makes it rain, snow, hail or sleet. Invisible water vapor is in the air of every place in the world, but it's invisible. Condensation happens because of the different temperature in the atmosphere. The amount of precipitation that falls is different all around the world. after the gas from condensation and the water from precipitation goes down it becomes ground-water/runoff.

Runoff is nothing more than water running off the land surface going into the lakes and rivers. Even though some rainfall soaks into the ground most flows over. Runoff is also important because as it flows some water goes into the ground and recharges the plants and grass. Some of the water from precipitation goes into the ground and that's what humans drink.

The water cycle is one of the most important cycle in the world. This cycle helps us grow crops to keep us living.

PALs
last week I was a PAL with anneke and ran an activity for the kakano with moon hoppers during the second half of lunch. We handed out pozi's to the little kids that tried hard and didn't give up which was most of them. While I was running the activity I showed the learner qualities of integrity. Integrity by being fair and making sure they all got an even amount of time on the moon hoppers.

My CARE Progress

I have done a check of my CARE progress so far this year.

I am proud of my progress
because I have got my BRONZE already and it normally takes me longer than this.

How far away are you from reaching your BRONZE?
I have just completed my BRONZE.

The area of CARE that I need to try harder in C / A / R / E
because I need to keep on going and never give up in my learning

To achieve my BRONZE/SILVER award quicker I need to
follow all the CARE values all the time.

The one thing that I can do to improve my progress in CARE is
to follow all the CARE values all the time.
